9 of 10 people found the following review helpful Razor Sharp Images, March 1, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Vortex Razor HD 20-60x85 Spotting RZR-A1 (Electronics) I have been using the HD 20-60 x 85 for 6 months or so. I use it for birding and looking at the moon or Jupiter every now and then. I have a Razor camera adapter fitted to a Canon HG10a HD video or still cam. It is mounted on a good Manfrotto 322Rc2 mount on a Manfrotto tripod. I custom mounted a $30 telescopic rifle sight with a bright LED reticle on a ball mount, itself mounted on the handle of the Manfrotto mount as a viewfinder. Why? Because I can never find anything at 20X.
I am a compulsive internet shopper and I put many, many hours of thought into this purchase before I made it. Amazon was the best deal. I started out looking for something cheaper, but bit the bullet for something of quality that will last a lifetime.
I love this system and highly recommend it. It's a little heavy compared with my wife's 65mm Nikon scope. Who cares? Most of the time I am not carrying this long distances anyway. It takes about 5 seconds to settle down with the current... Read more
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Great Scope and Great Value, June 20, 2011 By This review is from: Vortex Razor HD 20-60x85 Spotting RZR-A1 (Electronics) I'm glad I bought this scope. The larger size (85mm) does noticeably make things brighter, which is significant for some in lowlight, but for me it's more significant in telling feather differences on birds.
The dual-focus is handy, but I use the fine focus so much more, I could live without the coarse focus.
The finder on the side is helpful, but I've noticed the digiscoping adapter throws it off. I've seen it done both ways, but as many point out, you may as well take it off when digiscoping because it won't be accurate anyhow (the adapter width rubs against it and throws off the line-of-sight).
The balance is good while putting it on and taking it off a tripod.
The eye relief is good for my glasses. I still have to get really close, but it's better than many/most other scopes I've tried.
I'd heard about the edge-to-edge sharpness and was happy to see that it was real. I focused on a Red-Tailed Hawk nestling that was on a... Read more
